Become a Sake Sommelier!

Welcome to the World of Sake!

The Sake Sommelier Association® (SSA) is the oldest non-Japanese body to provide formal sake education. Our courses, challenges and competitions are ideal for everyone, from beginners with a passion for sake, to experts who’ve been working in the drinks industry for years.

The SSA’s courses range from the basics, with the Introductory Sake Professional, all the way to the world’s highest sake qualification, the Master Sake Sommelier.

Michael Lee, SSA Educator

Kizuna - a special connection bond.

The founder, Michael Lee, has spent his whole career with Japanese and got a huge success.

The success, mostly brought by his extensive exposure in living in Japan for 5 years, has him strongly devoted to serve as a mediator for bringing the most unrealized but authentic Japan treasure to Britain after moving here in 2021.

Having first hand and extraordinary experience thanks to his native Japanese proficiency and extraordinary career as a director of a Japan listed company, he developed a network with the breweries which are loved by the finest sector of the Japanese society.

The selection of sakes are based on his qualification of Sake Sommelier (or “kikizakeshi” in Japanese), purely studied in Japanese to avoid translation distortion, bringing you a completely new experience as most of the products are landed for the first time on the UK soil.

Sake Educators Wilson Yeung

Wilson Yeung, SSA Educator

Wilson is a travel industry professional and certified sake professional (Kikizakeshi) since 2018, with a strong focus on Japanese sake and food pairing.

Combining his sake expertise with extensive tourism market experience, he actively promotes sake culture in the UK and Hong Kong, engaging both industry professionals and consumers.

In 2022, he founded Omysake in London to further this mission through curated tastings, educational experiences, and sake importation, strengthening cultural exchange between Japan, Hong Kong, and the UK.
